Not quite ‘Bowled’ over

Superbowl ads are SUPER hyped here in the US (I guess it is the equivalent of watching the Cricket World Cup back in India) but honestly, today, I wasn’t sure why.

Some ads really stood out, a spot-on balance between entertainment and on-target messaging, consistent with the brand.

My favourite was the VW Darth Vader ad – it’s not quite going to make VW stand out in a viewer’s mind, but it’s going to get people looking up “darth vader kid” on Youtube and watching that ad over and over again.

However, the calibre of ads here doesn’t quite live up to the ads I remember watching in India on a regular basis. For your entertainment: The award-winning Happy Dent ad or this Airtel ad

Why do Indian ads seem more creative today than ads in the past and a lot of current US ads?
