Girl-talk

Dinner, a drink and great random conversation with a sweet, smart girl is a FANTASTIC way to spend an evening.

I usually find it more difficult to connect to women than to men – somehow, on average, men just seem easier to get along with. Maybe because they’re on their best behaviour around women (until they get extremely comfortable, after which it all becomes fart jokes and ogling the women at the next table).

So when I meet a nice, clever, laidback lady, it’s always a pleasure to kick back, chat, goss and swap ideas, dreams and secrets over a well-mixed drink.

Thanks, A, for a great evening!

PS: If in Bangalore, check out F&B, a nice restaurant with an nice cosy open-air lounge upstairs. (F&B stands for ‘Friends & Bacchus’ which I think is rather unfortunate but the decor is great, and it’s affiliated with 100ft Boutique at Indiranagar which also has great Mediterranean food. The Thai curry tonight at F&B was a winner, as was my Mai Tai. The foodie in me is going to miss this city!)

Screaming Girls

It’s 1.12 pm and I’m recovering from a bout of major blah-ness and a bad cold by sitting in CCD with a chicken sandwich and a hot cup of coffee. What I was not expecting (foolishly) was the screaming and shrieking coming from Mount Carmel College across the road!

They’re playing an interesting assortment of hip hop and funk, and about five seconds into each short clip of the song there’s a surge of “wooooOOOO**OOOOOOOOOO**OOOOOOOooooo” noises, chanted by at least a hundred teenage girls in chorus. The frustrating part is, from what I can see of the campus, there are a bunch of people sitting around silently watching the place where the noise is coming from.

I used to be one of those people who sat on the sidelines and sneered at the lowbrow goings on. Suddenly though, I really want to know what all the screaming is about! Is there a movie star in there? Is someone doing breathtaking stunts? Is there a man stripping off??

I don’t wish I was back in college, but sometimes I do wish I’d been a bit more interested in the fun crowd-pulling events as well. At least then I wouldn’t be sitting here staring at the college walls like one of the jobless boys that hang about here in Loafers’ Lane!

The 7th Day

Hello! It’s been a week since I arrived in Bangalore, around this time last Sunday I was gazing at the room I live in despairingly and wondering how I would survive the next two months.

A week later, I have reorganized the furniture, acquired a few pretty room accessories (yes, I love to spend money on homely things) and managed to stock up on freshly ground coffee, biscuits and cup-noodles. God bless my mother for getting me to bring a kettle and a spoon, what would I have done without these basic necessities?

Bangalore is a beautiful city and I plan to see more of it, but more on that later, as I add photographs!
